Sylvan Beach
occupies the eastern end of Oneida Lake - the largest body of water on the
Erie Canal. Brewerton perches on the western edge, 20 miles across.
We spent the night of 1 July waiting for the passage of a strong cold front.
Many boats had arrived days earlier to stake out a spot for the festivities
on the 4th.

We detoured through Lake Onondaga into
the Syracuse Inner Harbor. Not another person or boat was present.
