After first traveling to the eastern end of the Erie
Canal and on up into Lake Champlain, we returned and continued westward past
the Cayuga-Seneca Canal.
Lock 25 is the first lock west of the
CS Canal

At Lock 28 A, we called on
VHF, phoned and sounded the horn. Nothing. I tied the boat to
the terminal wall, climbed up and searched. Finally, I located the
lockmaster. He was mowing; wearing ear muffs and not listening to the
VHF on his belt.

Six miles east of
Fairport, we stopped for gas at Macedon Landing. The salesman showed
us one of the canal boats they rent.
