Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island, just to the north of
the channel of the same name, is a great stop for cruisers. In addition to
two marinas where you can get ice, water and fuel there is a town dock where
you can tie up for two hours until March 1, after that you get 10 minutes.
Just across the 200 foot wide Grande Bayou, you can drop a hook, back down
to the mangroves, throw a clove hitch around a branch, take up on your
anchor and enjoy the sights. We went into the dock, strolled around town,
bought and loaded groceries before going to an excellent lunch at the Pink
Elephant.
We were charmed by the place.
